Turin hosts the eighth edition of the biennial Salone Internazionale del Gusto (Hall of Taste) from October 21 through 25.

The event jointly sponsored by Slow Food movement, Piedmont Regional Authority and the City of Turin brings together artisan producers, farmers and fishermen, academics and chefs, sommeliers, and food lovers from all the world, emphasizing the combination of gastronomy and environment.

The fair offers the chance to know — and taste — delicious regional produce and food from across Italy and world as well as 2,500 labels of world wine. You can sign up to a Taste Workshop, where world-renowned chefs lead cooking demonstrations.
Also, visitors can enjoy exclusive Dinner Dates in Piedmont’s grand castles, villas or restaurants where celebrated Italian or international chefs cook top-quality food.

»» Historic Festivals in Piedmont: The Palio of Asti

Asti, well-known small city located in Piedmont at the heart of one of major wine-growing areas in Italy, hosts its historic festival the third week-end of September.

The festival, “Palio di Asti“, is named after the medieval horse race taking place on Sunday. The winner of the race gains the “Palio”, a crimson velvet drape.

On Sunday a couple of hours prior to the race, a historic procession takes place with over twelve hundred characters wearing medieval costumes parading through the alleys of the town. It is one of the most attracting events of the festival.

A trip to Asti during the festival days offers visitors the chance to taste the many local food specialties.
The area is well-known for the white truffle hunting, so you can enjoy a number of truffle-based recipes.
However Asti is specifically well-known for its excellent wines. So a trip there during the festival days, can offer you the chance to combine a historic tour with an unique enogastronomic experience.
