The festival, “Palio di Asti“, is named after the medieval horse race taking place on Sunday. The winner of the race gains the “Palio”, a crimson velvet drape.

On Sunday a couple of hours prior to the race, a historic procession takes place with over twelve hundred characters wearing medieval costumes parading through the alleys of the town. It is one of the most attracting events of the festival.

A trip to Asti during the festival days offers visitors the chance to taste the many local food specialties.
The area is well-known for the white truffle hunting, so you can enjoy a number of truffle-based recipes.
However Asti is specifically well-known for its excellent wines. So a trip there during the festival days, can offer you the chance to combine a historic tour with an unique enogastronomic experience.
