»» Rome Day Trip Ideas: Orvieto
Orvieto (Umbria) is one of the most attractive destinations for those who plan a day trip from Rome. And especially for those who are not willing to drive in Italy, as Orvieto is a short ride by rail (see train timetable).

The train ride from Rome is one hour ( 1 hour and 15 minutes with slower and less expensive trains). The funicular (station nearby) will take you up to the old city, then free bus will take you up to Duomo. You could also opt to take a walk through the town.
Orvieto is also an option as a day trip on the way from Rome to Venice. A day and overnight in Orvieto is a great idea if you are on the Rome – Venice route.
Orvieto is also a perfect place to be based during your trip through Umbria and Tuscany (in this case renting a car is suggested).
For those who drive, for parking in the town, there is the Campo Della Fiera parking lot, a huge parking with elevator that bring you to the city center. However it’s not difficult seeking a parking area in Orvieto.
