»» Franciscan Peace Trail, Umbria – Accommodation Tips

Hikers and walkers who have visited Umbria, probably already know the Franciscan Peace Trail — Sentiero Francescano della Pace.
It is a trail stretching for 30km from Assisi to Gubbio, two of the major and most visited historical centers in the area.

A medieval era trail which offers a plenty of churches, castles and other medieval sites, alongside to the typical landscape of Umbria.
Starting from Assisi, after 10 km, you come across Valfabbrica, a small town with its own historic medieval sites. Valfabbrica, is ideal for a stopover, and is there we have selected and reviewed a couple of very cheap options for your accommodation needs.

First a B&B, I Gelsomini. It’s a villa, located in the town of Valfabbrica, at 300 m. distance from the historic centre and at only 200 m. from the open countryside. At I Gelsomini we recommend to taste the typical home-made local cakes like crostate, torcolo, faccetta nera, ciaramicola.
Rates: Euro 45 per room, breakfast included.

The second one is an agritourism: CaMazzetto. ┬áIt’s a farm located upon a 550m hill, from where you can enjoy breathtaking views over hills and valleys. There, we also recommend to purchase farm products, such as extra-virgin olive oil and cheese. The farm is organic. Horse riding, Shiatsu and other types of massages are among the activities you can do while staying at CaMazzetto.
An apartment for 4 people can cost 500 Euro per week, 200-250 per week-end.

Even though both are family run accommodation, 5/6 languages are being spoken, from English, to German, to Spanish, to Swedish — not so usual in Italy.
