However, most of visitors feel (or have heard about) driving in this area is a nightmare. Is really so stressful driving there?
Let’s say it depends on your driving skills. However most of foreigners could find it a bit challenging. The roads are narrow and crowded and the towns have few places to park a car.
Taking the train and bus is easier and less stressful. So, you could take advantage of public transportation and limiting your driving activity.
Example: If you go there from Rome, you take the train to Naples, from there, take Circumvesuviana commuter train to the end of the line at Sorrento. From Sorrento, take the bus to Positano.
If you base your stay in Positano, you could do day trips to Pompeii, Amalfi, Ravello, and Sorrento by bus, also enjoying of an abundance of spectacular scenery.
