»» Historic Festival in Pisa
On Sunday , June 24, the city of Pisa divides into two camps to host the “Gioco del Ponte” (aka “Battaglia del Ponte” — “The Bridge’s Battle”).
The battle, a colourful and violent ritual dating back to the Middle Ages, takes place on the town’s main bridge — Ponte di Mezzo, during which the two opposing teams give proof of their own physical strength in a strongly competitive atmosphere.
Also a huge historical procession takes place along the Arno.
