Several new non-stop flights from New York JFK to some Italian destinations are scheduled to start early May.

Beginning May 6, Italian carrier Eurofly will add non-stop flights to Palermo (twice a week), beginning May 7 to Naples (three times a week) and to Bologna (twice a week) on May 8.

On April 21, Eurofly started a non service between New York and Rome which operates five days a week (except Monday and Wednesday).
The flights will run through November 13.

If you happen to visit Umbria early May, it is not to be missed the Calendimaggio festival in Assisi. And also if you are visiting Tuscany or Rome it’s worth taking a day trip to Assisi in these days.

An authentic medieval atmosphere is recreated in Assisi during the Calendimaggio days.
This festival takes the form of a ritual song and balladry contest between the upper and lower districts of the city, with medieval costume parades, archery, crossbow and flag-waving displays.

The 2007 edition takes place from April 27 through May 5 (with most of the performances concentrated on May 3, 4, 5).  For the festival schedule visit the Calendimaggio official website

Advice about transportation for those who plan to visit Amalfi Coast and Sorrento by flying into Naples Airport.

Most of foreign visitors find it very stressful driving in Italy so I would especially not recommend doing it around Amalfi coast and the Naples area.

Naples Airport transfer.
There is a bus that goes from Naples airport direct to Sorrento at regular intervals during the day. The bus stop is just outside the airport. I think you would paid about 7euro (private car could cost also around 100). You pay for your ticket when you get to the bus. In Sorrento excellent train, bus and ferry service at reasonable prioces to get you to all the places you would want to go to.

A few places to see and things to do for families planning to visit Rome with kids.
