Night ski torchlight processions represent a common tradition in the celebrations of the New Year in the alpine areas.
The resort of Courmayeur in Val d’Aosta, on December 30, hosts a large-scale torchlight procession - the traditional “Fiaccolata“.

Skiers with headlamps make a light snake winding down along the snow-covered slopes. Fireworks in the town of Courmayeur complete the night.

However in these alpine areas, skiing guided by the full moon, is a common activity to accompany the New Year’s Eve dinners.
