»» Christamas activities in Rome
with Christams coming up, increasingly, people traveling to Rome for spending their holidays there, are asking us
what to see and to do in Rome and surroundings for Christmas
I recommend a couple of things to do among the several festivity events being scheduled there.
Don’t miss the Piazza Navona Christmas Market, you’ll find there items related to Christmas, Nativity and much more.
I recommend to visit this market open from December 8 through to January 6, located in the wonderful Piazza Navona.
If you save time for day trips, I would suggest to visit the town of Greccio (close to city of Rieti, Latium) for the representation of the First Nativity Scene from December 24 through to January 6.
The first representation of a Nativity scene was in 1223 at Greccio.
Of course, I mean typical Christmas things to do, but you’ll be also able to enjoy all of the Rome attractions in that time.

A few advice more to help make your holiday pleasant and keep you relaxed, especially around peak holiday times.
- Some museums and art galleries could be closed for 25 and 26 Dec, but you can keep you occupied by visiting churches.
- Some restaurants and cafes as well, could be closed for 25 Dec, but you will find some that are opened as usual, but for restaurants I suggest to book in advance. And for New Year’s eve long time in advance
- Shopping: try to avoid before Dec. 25, it is very crowded time and could turn your shopping experience into a pain.
- Driving in Rome: before Dec. 25 the roads in Rome are very crowded with terrible traffic particularly around the shopping areas; the same happens on Dec. 31.
